Filter/tag for unread messages

Is there a way to filter for unread email? Maybe having a default "Unread" tag assigned to mail that is unread. Just someway to view just my email messages that I have not read yet.

Just type "is:unread" in the search box and click "Search". If you'd like, you can save the search and have it one click away.
