Default About to leave organization and will lose Zimbra account - need to save all messages

A current Zimbra Web Client user has used her email for years, and now is preparing to leave the organization that provides the service. She would like to download and save all emails, attachments, briefcase items, etc before all access is lost upon her separation. The files need to be "real" looking, not messy txt files, if that's possible.

Any suggestions? I am not super tech savvy, so please be kind and give detailed directions.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

There's two choices, the Zimbra Web UI has an Import/Export function in the user Preferences panel - that can export all the email, contact, briefcase etc. The other alternative would be to use a fat client to download the contents to a local PC. You could use Zimbra Desktop and that will sync the mailbox to the local PC and have the contents cached locally and provide an interface to the email, contacts, brifcase etc.

If you're 'zimlets' have better functionality why don't you post them in the gallery for everyone to download, this is an open source project after all or are your zimlets proprietary?

Sorry to have to play the bad-guy, but just check you are permitted to take your mailbox with you - I'm assuming 'organisation' is an Organisation, not a service provider.

Generally speaking most organisations regard 'your' mailbox as company property and taking a copy with you would be equivalent to walking out with a copy of the customer database under one arm and a set of Xeroxed internal memos under the other. It matters not whether that address is the one you registered with on twit-my-face-'din, it's a COMPANY address/mailbox/data-set.

Having said that, I find the web-client export is more than adequate and as the messages are saved in MIME format they can be import into a new client/mail-server quite easily.

+1, you could find yourself into a sticky wicket especially if said account contained confidential and proprietary information.
Although, having said that, if the export feature is enabled at the user level it could be considered that such actions are condoned.
That would be something for the attorneys to sort out, along with firewall/mail logs if the information was simply 'mailed out' of the system.
