Thanks for opening bug. I just heard back from one user who has not had any issues since changing to compatibility mode in IE 9 on Windows 7. It seems to be at least a workaround for now.

Apparently there was already a bug opened for this issue. See bug 74279. The bug title doesn't mention IE specifically, so once again my searching failed.
As far as compatibility mode, my users have reported it on IE7 with Windows XP, so not sure this is an option. The bug report that I posted in this thread mentions auto-save. I think one of my users mentioned something about this, so I'm going to check this out.
Compatibility mode is in every version of IE since IE 7. It looks like a broken piece of paper in the address bar.
Autosave could be the answer - I asked them to continue to keep an eye on it. I prefer not to disable autosave of course.
