| | | Outlook cannot connect to Zimbra I write my problem here, as it is in connection with Outlook, and I didn't find any common error thread (I hope it is not a problem, if yes, please move it to the appropriate thread).
My problem is: in Outlook (2003, 2007) the mail don't synchronyze, it says different error codes (both in pop3 and imap), it seems that it cannot connect to the server, like connection lost, cannot reach the server, etc. The MS error codes are not too helpful (0x800ccc0e for imap for example), as the solution is always a network failure. But not for me... If I set up for example a Thunderbird on the same computer, it works flawlessly with both imap and pop3. I can also watch the mail via web, so the connection works. What was interesting, that I had to reinstall one of the pc's, and after a clean install, it works with outlook.. (but I cannot reinstall every computer)
I know it is not a Zimbra problem, but I hope that someone heard about that or experienced the same problem.
We have Zimbra 7.1.0 on Ubuntu 10
We have other Zimbra servers (at other companies), but with older versions (6), and there are no problem with imap & outlook, so it seems for me, that there is some compatibility problem? I reinstalled outlook, set the mailbox again, but the error is still there.
I have contacted with our Zimbra administrator, but he didn't see any information in the logs - as the connection didn't work, it is not a surprise btw.
Thanks in advance |

| | Did you setup Advanced settings for Outlook connectivity (under More Settings tab in Properties of Outlook mail account) properly? For example:
- IMAP port 143 without security (probably won't work)
- IMAP port 143 with TLS works in most cases
- IMAP port 993 with SSL might work, too
- SMTP should authneticate
- SMTP port 25 is sometimes blocked by your ISP, so try port 465 instead |

Thanx anyway! |

| | Just another thought:
Do you maybe use Symantec Endpoint Security antivirus on your client machine? This product totally messed up my Outlook when I tested it and I had to reinstall whole Office to get it back running!
If not, check your Antivirus/antispam software, especially under e-mail scanning and integration with Outlook/office!
...and another thought:
Did you try entering IP address of Zimbra server for SMTP and POP3/IMAP server in Outlook? Maybe you use public domain name there, which cannot be reached from inside LAN? |

Also no solution with entering the IP address instead of the name. Thanks! |

| | Ok, now the missing info: is Zimbra on your LAN network, or is it outside on internet? |

Both on the reinstalled and the problematic pc(s) is installed the firewall client with the same settings. And the same rules. Quote:

And the same rules. | The problem may not be the firewall on the local PC. You will, however, be better by trying a telnet to the server on some of the ports you listed above.
BTW, the correct Submission port is 587 not 465 and you should use 587 with your authentication credentials. Have you also checked that the IMAP server is actually enabled on the Zimbra server.
