Default ics/ical in utc, not showing up as right local time

Hi all,

quick question:

There is an ical feed which you can get from here:

http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/ubuntu-au/ical

The problem is that the times are in UTC, when I import the calendar the times show up at the UTC suggested time.

I want them to be converted to my local time, how would I best go about this?

thanks

Ikt,

I download your link and the file is indeed in the suggested UTC time. I was unable to change the time of the calendar been after i made sure Zimbra was calibrated to my time zone. I did manage to find a work around. i imported the calender into Outlook then exported out as a .csv. then imported back into Zimbra.

Hope this helps.

Sounds good, there's no option of outlook here but I might be able to do that with evolution.

To fix this issue should I report a bug?

I think the problem is in the .ics feed. If I get an .ics feed from Zimbra, using

http://zimbra.company.com/home/addre...m/calendar.ics

It has a timezone section before the VEVENTS. E.g. in mine it appears as

Code:
BEGIN:VTIMEZONE
TZID:America/New_York
BEGIN:STANDARD
DTSTART:19710101T020000
TZOFFSETTO:-0500
TZOFFSETFROM:-0400
RRULE:FREQ=YEARLY;WKST=MO;INTERVAL=1;BYMONTH=11;BYDAY=1SU
TZNAME:EST
END:STANDARD
BEGIN:DAYLIGHT
DTSTART:19710101T020000
TZOFFSETTO:-0400
TZOFFSETFROM:-0500
RRULE:FREQ=YEARLY;WKST=MO;INTERVAL=1;BYMONTH=3;BYDAY=2SU
TZNAME:EDT
END:DAYLIGHT
END:VTIMEZONE
BEGIN:VTIMEZONE
TZID:America/Los_Angeles
BEGIN:STANDARD
DTSTART:19710101T020000

END:VTIMEZONE
BEGIN:VTIMEZONE

END:VTIMEZONE
Individual events on my calendar contain the timezone in their date information, e.g.
Code:
DTSTART;TZID="America/Los_Angeles":20110413T133000
DTEND;TZID="America/Los_Angeles":20110413T140000

The .ics feed that you linked is missing this information, so there's no way to convert--the "native" time zone of the calendar events is unknown.

See also iCalendar spec: 4.6.5 Time Zone Component, etc.

That said, I suppose you could file an RFE in bugzilla to allow the user to specify the time zone of an imported calendar.
