Question ZCS 7, appointment reminder and snooze granularity

Hi everyone

Recently upgraded to ZCS 7 from 6 but just noticed that one of the improvements I was hoping for hasn't materialised.

I realise the Tasks system has had a complete rewrite with regards to the way it handles reminders. The ability to enter a specific date/time for the reminder is a big improvement.

But I notice that the same level of control of appointment reminders isn't available. Is that by design?

Are there any plans to roll out the improved reminder granularity to the Calendar utility?
IMO a reminder is a reminder... whether it comes from a Task or Calendar Appointment should be irrelevant.

What would be really useful is an expanded range of options for the reminder snooze screen.
Being able to snooze a reminder for x number of hours/days/weeks/months -or- specify a new exact time for the reminder would be superb.

Anyone got any info/opinions on this?

Cheers, B

PS: Really like the new horizontal time picker to specify 15/30/45 mins past the hour. That's an excellent bit of UI work right there.

Anyone know if there's any way to specify an exact time for appointment reminders/snooze of reminders?
Or is it only possible for the tasks component?

Cheers, B

A quick search on bugzilla didn't turn up anything, but I didn't look very hard. You could open an RFE and post the # here--I agree it would be useful to set a specific time for reminders either when setting the reminder or when hitting snooze.

I've added an RFE for this so hopefully this may appear one day!

Bug 59189 – Appointments Reminders/Snooze should have same time options/granularity as Task Reminders

Please vote for the new bug 65154

The last one was marked as a duplicate.

The new bug specifically requests more snooze time options greater than 60 minutes. Not a UI re-write.

Original poster here. Fantastic! Thanks for doing that... voted

After using Appointments/Tasks and reminders in v7 over the past few months I think I've changed my mind!

Basically... I'd just like to see some consistency in the reminders section for the Appointments and Tasks components.
Being able to set a reminder by either:
  • Relative reminder time/date with expanded options
  • Absolute reminder time/date using the Tasks reminder UI (per the attachment to this post)

And both of these options (relative/absolute) also available when snoozing a reminder.

I really like the reminder UI for Tasks. The drop-down for the hour, then the pop-out to choose a minute 15/30/45 or just being able to type the time in the text box is a really clever bit of UI design.

Any comments on this?
But expanded options for the snooze is definitely a great starting point.

Cheers, B

Having thought about it even more, I've changed my mind slightly.

Instead of an expanded range of options for relative reminder setting/snooze, a better solution which gives much more flexibility would be a text box where a user can enter a number and a drop down menu where they can choose between minutes/hours/days.

Incidentally that's how we do it on our intranet reminders system and it seems to work really well.

Comments?

Cheers, B
