Default wrap text in compose widget

Is there a way to get the compose widget to wrap text at 80 (or some configurable number of) columns? i.e. add newlines so that the emails look nicer on terminals and in replies. I like to respond to people inline and the long lines make for ugly replies. for example on a reply,

nice:

> this is a very long sentence
> that doesn't really mean
> anything but is put here so
> that i can give an example
> of wrapping...

ugly:

> this is a very long sentence that doesn't really mean anything but is put here so that i can give an example of wrapping. i think i need to add some more text so that it will cause a wrap on a browser screen. there i think that is probably long enough.

thanks,

-peter
