Default Tab key redux

Hello,

Does the tab key tab in the webmail? I upgraded to the latest open source edition, and it doesn't seem to work.

The funny thing about software, is that when people have other options, something small and little can be a deal breaker. For most people that I know, the absence of a working tab key when composing an email will completely prevent them from using Zimbra. I use a bunch of mail systems myself (and used to be an IT manager for 180 Outlook users) along with my use of Zimbra, and the broken default tab behavior is embarrassing in my opinion.

If it's still an open bug since 2006 or 2007 or whenever, that's just pathetic.

Can someone please tell me how to make a tab tab in Zimbra? Thanks!

Now that (having read the bug) I know that this only happens in HTML compose, I consider it merely further evidence that HTML email is the antichrist. :-)

On point, though, I suspect it happens because it's probably difficult for the embedded editor to lose focus back to the form on its own initiative, for security reasons, and if that really is the problem, there's not going to be any easy way to fix it, since it has to do with browser security model design, and, in short, you don't *want* embedded apps to be able to do such things, generally.

Every mail system on the planet functions that way. I know plenty of people who would never use Zimbra simply because of that and I've had people I've given free accounts on a Zimbra server not use it because of the tab key. It drives me absolutely nuts myself.

Gmail does it, Yahoo Mail does it, Outlook Web Access does it, etc. All of them.

It's simply not acceptable. It should really be the default behavior. End of story. At the very, very least, there should be an administrative option to make it the default behavior.

This is not even close. They should fix it immediately.

Do feel free to add your thoughts (and vote) to the bug report mentioned earlier in this thread or create a new bug report if that one doesn't fit your needs. Bugzilla would be the correct place to ask for changes to the product.

Ok, done. Thanks for the recommendation. I hope this behavior was not intentional. I wasn't aware that it was ever working properly and thought that it was "by design" due to some purist notion that it shouldn't override the browser default tab order or something.

I have no idea what the original design thinking was on that 'feature' but if there's anything that doesn't suit you or that you think needs fixing then bugzilla is the correct place for it. That will always get seen by developers and comments added to it as it progresses through the system. I'm not, of course, saying that you'll always get what you want but it does get developers attention.

I should also have mentioned that a link in this thread to your bug report would be helpful so others can see it and vote on it (if they want to).
