Default Nokia N900 / Maemo 5 Sync with ZCS

Hi Everyone,

I own a Nokia N900 Smartphone (or like they say, a Internet Tablet) with the Maemo 5 Operating System and would like to synchronize at least the calendar and the contacts with Zimbra (E-Mails are synchronized over IMAP).
So I installed Funambol Server with the Zimbra Connector on the server side and Syncevolution on the N900 side for synchronizing with the SyncML protocol. That works... But from time to time I get doubled calendar entries and wrong synchronized contacts. That's very annoying.
The way the data has to flow through until it is on the device/server is very long: Maemo <-> Syncevolution <-> SyncML Protol / Internet <-> Funambol Server <-> Zimbra Connector <-> Zimbra. There are plenty of ways to get troubles...

So my question is: Is there a better way to synchronize the Nokia N900 calendar/addressbook with Zimbra?

Thanks for every suggestion!

Tobias

I got a PM:

Hi,

I noticed your post from March 2010 when you were asking for sync solutions between Zimbra and your n900. Like you, I had previously configure this sync via a separate box with Funambol + the Zimbra Connector. An update to Zimbra seems to have broken this for me. There were also some things I could not do with my configuration that I thought I needed to better secure my sync method.

Anyway, I was browsing today for any new developments and thought I would ask if you had any luck with your search.

Thanks for your time
And like to answer that in the public forum.

I tried the sync of calendar and contacts with Z-Push on the server side and "Mail for Exchange" on the Maemo side. It looks promising. You only need a webserver with PHP support, the newest Z-Push package and the Z-Push Zimbra Backend, no need for a Database, Java or something else.
So I will use this sync method from now on. Time will tell if it works without the troubles I had with Funambol and Syncevolution.

Default Better luck without SyncML

Howdy. I'm the originator of the PM above. I'd like to report that I have been able to get (mobile) wireless sync to work for contacts/mail/calendar content in my Zimbra (zcs-NETWORK-6.0.7_GA_2473) and the "Mail for Exchange" app on my n900. I've also done this with Android 2.1 mobile phones using their native Exchange/Activesync account type. In order to achieve this I had to enable the mobile sync option via the Zimbra admin. I haven't taken the time to see if I can make the GAL available to the mobile devices, but that would be a great addition.
