Feature req: add to calendar from .ics attachment

Small feature request question here, and I'm interested to see if it's only me that would ever find benefit from this function.

I've recieved an email from a company confirming a delivery, this company sends out attached to that email, an ics file containing the details. I can save that attachment, the go to preferences and import/export, and browse to the file, and import the .ics to the calendar and then Boom! the appointment for the delivery now appears in my calendar - which is nice.

It'd be nicer though if I could click on the attachment while reading the email and have the appointment added to the calendar, rather than taking the file out and putting it back in.


Has anyone else ever wanted this, would it be useful to anyone, or am I just being lazy ?

I do the same thing that you do to import ics files, and I agree it would be nice in principle to be able to right-click on an ics file and have a popup menu option to "Add to Calendar".

Some users however have multiple shared calendars, so the new UI you are proposing might need to enable users to choose into which calendar to import the ics file, yes?

And if there are resources on the domain, like conference rooms, projectors, etc., would you want to have an easy way to invite them to the event as well at the same time?

I do think this is a good idea, I just think the use cases need some fleshing out.

Would you consider adding your specific use cases to the RFE (and voting for it)? That will help to get it on Zimbra's development radar.

Vote added, I think it's probably easiest to have it just added to your default calendar and then you could go to it and edit it to do things like change which calendar it's in and invite other people/resources.

Anything that means I can do it without leaving the web interface would be nice, the current method wont work on the iPad i dont own yet
