Default Email shows coming from wrong account

I successfully installed zimbra on my server at home. I am receiving emails sent to my email address @ my domain, however when I send out an email it shows as if it is coming from the account I used for SMTP. I have internet through AT&T/SBC Yahoo so I use gmails SMTP server using my gmail account for authentication. When I send an email from bill@billhughesiii.com, it shows up as bhughesiii@gmail.com which is the account I use for SMTP.

Can anyone please be of any help?

From the sounds of it you are using some sort of client software to access your Zimbra server?

If you are using Zimbra Desktop I can move it into that forum, but I think this is probably as good a place as any.

What email client are you using?

There are no settings for SMTP in the web client...

Are you possibly saying that you are trying to have your server relay messages through an external server?

Yes, I am having the server use google's smtp server for sending out email.

Well that would be your problem. Google, like most email services, doesn't allow you to use their servers for relaying messages. If your ISP is blocking direct access then they probably have a SMTP server that will act like a relay for you.

Looks like I will have to find another way to do it then. I set up outgoing mail using SMTP authentication to smtp.gmail.com:587. Mail does go out, but apparently gmail is rewriting the from in the email address to be my gmail email account.

Thanks for your help!

There are companies that provide a mail relay service such as dyndns.org (there are many others if you search), they're not free but most of them are a reasonable cost or use your ISPs mail servers as ArcaneMagus mentioned.

I am going to see if I can setup my ISP's smtp servers to be used. If not I will look in to a paid service that operates for a small fee.
