Default iCal (mac) issues with zimbra and outlook 2007.

Hi,

We have just moved to Zimbra as our enterprise mail solution. Though it has worked smoothly for outlook users, mac users like me are still struggling!

I am facing two big issues as of now.

First :

Invites i send to people using outlook 2007 are skewed. I am in IST so if i send an invite for 10 am then outlook 2007 users get it for 9 am. 2003 users get it for 10 am as planned.

There are two observations here -
1. The reminder duration is accurate before accepting the invite but changes after the invite is accepted by 2007 user.
2. If instead of accepting the invite on outlook 2007, if one was to login in the web and accept the invite there then later outlook would synch with the right time!

This may not be a zimbra issue at all, but i am hoping for some help nonetheless!

Second:

I use CalDAV on ical. The invites come ok and get accepted, however there is no way to accept attachments. Infact i cannot send invites with attachments if CalDAV calendar (zimbra) is used. I could do this when i used calendar on my mac.

Is this an issue with CalDAV support in zimbra? Some configuration?

BTW - the apple migration is not very well documented. It took me lot of time to figure out that i should NOT be using isynch plugins for calendar and instead configuring a CalDAV calendar in ical

pls help!

I can only confirm/commiserate on not being able to send attachments with invites that are created on a Zimbra CalDAV calendar. I posted about this a while ago but didn't get answers: http://www.zimbra.com/forums/isync-c...tachments.html

I also can't help with the time zone issue but about the isync plugin, but note that even if you don't use it to configure your CalDAV account (and here it offers a bit of convenience compared to doing so manually), you should consider installing it so that it'll sync your contacts with Address Book.

Hi jaskaran, elliot
Regarding attachments in CalDAV meetings in iCal: there in fact a limitation that prevents syncing attachments in ZCS calendars events. See bug 38212 (Bug 38212 – CalDAV iCal add attachments feature not visible).

Thanks, Rodi. Reviewing that and going back to RFC 4791, it really seems that iCal is "wrong" here.

For what it's worth, I just reported this in bugreport.apple.com and it was assigned Bug ID# 7539110 over there.

Hi Rodi/Elliot,

This is not an issue only with iCal but also with THunderbird - Lightining or Sunbird.

People don't get attachments in their invite.

This actually causes lot of inconvenience as now the mail has to be saved along even after the invite accepted

Is it an issue of Lightining/Sunbird also not supporting attachments or is it a limitation of CalDAV implementation in Zimbra?

jaskaran,
Looking at the discussion in the bug it looks like the problem is caused by a different implementation of attachments in CalDAV events.
ZCS supports inline implementation while iCal (and presumably) the other calendar clients you mention, support only link-based attachments.
I checked with the server team and there is no update on this issue at the moment. I would suggest you cc yourself in the bug to receive updates.

This quite contrary to lot of claims on the website where multiple client "full support" has been mentioned in several ways.

overall its been a terrible experience with zimbra. None of the clients work well and we have spent lot of time to trying to get things working. Mac support is terrible (isynch has to be resynched atleast once a day), entourage support is poor, i cal does not support attachments, entourage does not support attachments and to top it all outlook is not showing free-busy correctly.

should have sticked to exchanged (
