HTML Version, not searching in shared addressbooks

While the AJAX Version has an option to let the search search in shared items, too (btw, why do I have to reactivate that every time I log in, is there no setting to have this permanent?) our users using the HTML-Version of the frontend have no way to search in shared addressbooks. Even the search field that sits right above the contact list only searches in the default addressbook.

Or did I miss something?
