Default ActiveSync for OpenSource Edition

Hello,

is it possible to get ActiveSync work also in the Open-Source Edition?
I only need ActiveSync (and maybe Zimbra Mobile) and none of the other business parts...
I use the Zimbra-Mail-Server only for private parts (with less than 5 users) - so the NE would be unpayable...

I have funambol working, but I need ActiveSync for Android.

When I upgrade to the NE Version I could use ActiveSync only for the trial period and then it is switched off - right?
Are there any possibilities to get extendet time - until unlimited - without support? Maybe just with a small fee?

The answer to your questions would be no, you can only get that for the NE version(s).

That would only work for the trial period until the licence expires, you would then need to 'upgrade' to the Open Source edition to restore full functionality in Zimbra - what happens after a licence has expired has been covered in detail in the forums several times. An extension to the licence is not possible except for the usage plans already defined

Is the "Starter Edition" a yearly fee or only paid once?

They are all yearly fees but note that the Starter Edition doesn't have mobile support.

Yes, I have seen that...
But nevertheless for a private person $400/year only for the ActiveSync is far too much...
Thanks for your answers!

Try the z-push approach. Will need tweaking and management but if cost is a big factor, it will atleast get you up and running with AS (somewhat)

Well it won't be "cheaper" because the web server is already running - and I want to keep it...

z-push is still not supporting calendar sync (right?) - so it is also not really usable...

It's really awful that it it not possible to get Active-Sync for less than 5 persons! It really seems to be the only possibility to switch to scalix - there the policy is far better for private persons! There the Active-Sync is free for a couple of persons even in the community-edition. :-(
Nevertheless I prefer Zimbra.....

Question:
Would it be possible to enhance the opensource Version with Active-Sync?
Maybe if enough users VOTE for it?
Or would this be impossible? Why?

Zimbra Mobile is one of the components that is chargeable. If Zimbra were to provide everything for free, within the Community Edition, then they would not have a very good business model
