Default *.ical appointment reply from Apple iCal 4.0.1 not recognized

I am using Zimbra 6 and invited an external person using Apple iCal 4.0.1. The email with the reply containing an ics file was obviously not recognized by Zimbra, because the appointment status for the external person did not change.

Replies from Outlook users invited in the same way are automatically recognized by Zimbra and the status in the calender is updated. So the process in itself obviously works. There seems to be a problem with the format of the ics file, which differs a lot between Apple iCal and Outlook.

Is this a bug?

This is a bug... We have the same problem... Not only from ical

Bug 21728 – Clicking an ics file (attachment) should open calendar appt details view

Good luck getting something fixed as they don't seem to keen on supporting ics files other then their own.

That's an old bug related to invitations. I don't think it's the issue raised by the original poster. Negg's scenario is:

1. Using ZCS 6, in ZWC, invite an external person.
2. The external person, using iCal 4, accepts/declines the invitation. This causes their Mac to send back an email with an .ics attachment containing the response.

Expected result: the external person's status shows as "accepted" or "declined" in ZWC.
Actual result: the status shows as "needs action".

As for whether this is a bug...I haven't seen it yet. I'd suggest filing a report in bugzilla and posting the number here.

I think it is the same...It's zimbra not knowing how to accept other ics files.

It does the same with outlook2007, Lightning and ical.
