searching external ldap "description" attribute.

I have managed to configure my external open ldap server to push the old notes attribute values to the "description" attribute that populates the notes field in Zimbra Ajax client contacts form.

When I search for a contact all the attributes available to the zimbra ldap contact form pull in fine - even the notes. However, I have not figured out how to search my external ldap's "description" attribute from within Zimbra.

The GAL attribute map states that description=notes when using open ldap standard schema. How do I search it from within zimbra ?
