[SOLVED] Distinguish between organizing a meeting or just telling about an event

We currently use Zimbra 5.0.18_GA_3011.DEBIAN4.0.

For a photographic club I'ld like to share the calendar containing our monthly appointments with others, showing the lecture themes as well (if any). I set this calendar to "shared, read-only" and told people about the address https://zimbra.inkampani.com/home/in.../Calendar.html

That's no problem so far.

Additionally I want to add other photographic events to this calendar that were not organized by us. Unfortunately in the single event's view of the above mentioned "Calendar.html" there is always our email address shown as the organizer of any event.

Can I display any other organizer name perhaps with a link to their web site instead of my own mail address?

The other people could send that account a calendar invite and it would then show them as the organizer.

"The other people" are usually not in close contact with the photo club and never would have a Zimbra account on our system. So it might be difficult to ask them to send us an invitation.

What I want is, to be able to mention any interesting event in our calendar but this should not be shown as a photo-club-managed event.

Example? Ask the manager of the "Photokina" (the greatest photo exhibition in Germany) to send a calendar invitation to not only us, but maybe hundreds of photo clubs all over the country :-)

(If necessary, I can add an enhancement request to the Bugzilla, but wanted to see if I had been missing anything, or if this feature is already built-in up to version 6.)

As long as they send you an invitation to the event in any format Zimbra understands it should add it to the calendar. I have had people send me invites using Outlook that Zimbra parsed and added the event to my calendar.

Sorry to repeat: They won't do this at all, because they usually don't know of me/us.

Hmmm.... so you are basically saying you want to put events on your calendar showing as being organized by people that never actually sent you the event. There are two ways that I can think of to attempt this:

First you could try setting up an account on your system that can send from any address, then use that account to send you an invite from the address you want to appear on the calendar.

If that doesn't work the only other way that I can think of would be to manually create the raw message file and add it using the command line to the account hosting the calendar.... obviously method one is preferable if it works.

I don't see that either or these methods will work for us. #2 is impossible for me, because I don't have command line access to Zimbra (it's a provider-managed installation). #1 would lead us to many email accounts for many of the organizers around the country, which is supposed to be impracticable. Negative part for this one would be, that any of those addresses would remain in our domain, so the information that someone really different from our club is organizing this event would be missed.

What about method #3? Edit the "Organizer" field manually when creating the event. This would be my preferable method, but I guess this is not possible in the current versions of Zimbra.

If you agree to that, I'll set up an enhancement request in Bugzilla.

Well, just tried to do the method 1 I said and it looks like you can't specify a persona as the from address for a calendar event like I thought you could, which means that yes currently I can't think of a way to do this other then creating a fake raw message (if that would even work...).

A thought, although perhaps a bit of a long-shot: Is it possible that that the actual event organizer has a publicly-accessible calendar that can be "subscribed" using Webcal (i.e., WebDAV access to .ics file)? If so you, you can subscribe a calendar to that one.
