POP3 is a protocol for receiving messages... not sending them. Have you configured your Zimbra server as the SMTP server in your client?

You need to provide some more detailed explanation of the problem, start with any errors from the log files and any errors from OE when you try and send an email.

Some internet providers block port 25 (as a precaution against spamming) to all ip's except their own mailserver. If this is the case (try to connect through telnet port 25 on your server) there are two solutions:

1. have your server listen on another port (e.g. 2525) for SMTP (and configure Outlook Express accordingly)
2. use your internet provider's mailserver (e.g. smtp.yourprovider.com)

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'diamant', Server: 'mail.mydomain.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

smtp server is set to 25

root@zimbra:~# netstat -atpn |grep smtp
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:25 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2387/smtpd
tcp 0 0 10.10.9.2:46560 98.137.54.238:25 ESTABLISHED 27951/smtp
tcp 0 261360 10.10.9.2:39503 98.137.54.237:25 ESTABLISHED 27952/smtp

i think my isp is filtering the 25 tcp

Can I check that the Zimbra server is on a different internet connection to you? If no, how is it communicating on port 25?

Your ISP wont be blocking all port 25 traffic, just port 25 destined for anywhere other than it's own mail servers.

Try telnetting to smtp.yourisp.com or whatever it should be, on port 25; you should be able to connect. If you can, try the same excercise to the zimbra server, if that fails then you know it's an ISP limit and you should speak to them to ask for it to be lifted.

That does look like the problem lies at your ISP. Looks like you'll need to discuss it with them.
