GAL in standard mode

I am currently using ZCS 5.x on ubuntu 8 LTS server edition.

Everything has been going fine expect for a few items. Certain users must use the standard version due to their connection speed. Some users, while using the standard version, are able to populate their GAL when composing a message.

For instance, if they type in the letter "a" all the users will populate in standard mode. However, when the user logs into another computer, they list will not populate while using standard mode. This has to be a computer error, but I can not find out what it is. Anyone have any insight? I tried searching around and nothing has come up.
