Default setting default reminder to never stops all reminders

In Options/Calendar/Show Reminders I set it to never as I don't want a default applied to all my appointments. I do occasionally want a reminder on an appointment and at the time of adding the appointment I set the reminder from never to whatever I need. The reminder never comes up. If I set the default in Options back to something other than never a reminder is shown at the time specified. Am I reading this right? Is Options/Calendar/Show Reminders just setting the default or is it supposed to kill all reminders when set to never even if overridden when an appointment is created?

yeah i don't think that setting is for default reminder time, but like you said probably disables them all together. a quick look through account properties i found this

zimbraPrefCalendarApptReminderWarningTime: 5

given that the default reminder time is 5min this is probably the setting. maybe setting it to 0 makes it never by default?

I think this is just an another example of Zimbra being sloppy when they make changes. Earlier in verion 5 this preference setting applied to every appointment since the reminder setting was global to the account and not something that is actually useful--per appointment. Fortunately they added per appointment reminders (although still rather limited compared to, say, Outlook). They really should have done something like have a preference settings for reminders on/off and another setting for the default reminder (with the option of "none" and not "never"). Or perhaps they could have had both "none" and "never" on the preferences picklist.

Another extreme example of sloppiness is the trash/delete behaviour. Sometimes the delete button moves to trash and sometime it deletes. What's really dumb is if the tool tip says "Move selected item(s) to Trash" and the operation performed is delete.

You could always file a bug report or RFE if you think the current behaviour is incorrect.

In the current release of Zimbra the Delete button tool tip actually says "Delete selected item permanently" if you're in the Trash folder and "Move selected item to Trash" if you're in any other folder - what could be more clear?

I could when I get a chance. If it ends up being an RFE, it will likely languish in Bugzilla for a *long* time so it doesn't necessarily seem worth the time. I keep hoping Zimbra will improve their quality control (cf. forums why-zimbra-so-buggy).

How about the Junk folder, the Trash folder in the Address Book application, the Calendar application and the Tasks application? In all four places, the Delete button tool tip says "Move selected item(s) to Trash" and the items are actually permanently deleted. Only the confirmation pop-up in Tasks explicitly states that permanent deletion will occur.

There's lots to like about Zimbra, but this sort of thing is sloppy.

Let me add a fifth: search and find items in the Trash. Trash items will be permanently deleted contrary to the tool tip text.

Well, without filing an RFE it never will get to the attention of developers and will languish as 'unresolved' (at least for you) for an even longer time.

[QUOTE=edwin.arneson;140059]I keep hoping Zimbra will improve their quality control (cf. forums why-zimbra-so-buggy).I keep hoping that people will file bug reports, RFEs and search the forums before posting questions but it seems I'm to be eternally disappointed.
