Default Mail Problems

Hi All,
I'm having the following issue:

An user does not receive mail from certain other users and when the mail comes with some types of attachments. Ex: The user can receive mail from user "B" with an excel attachment, but does not receive the mail from user "B" when it is sent with a word attachment.

When we check zimbra.log it appears as all the mail to the user, sent from user "B" is sent. We checked the status, it appear as queued and later in the log, the status appears as sent.

I really don't understand how this happens, any clue??

Regards,
E.

Is this user that is having trouble receiving mail with a Word document from "user B" also a Zimbra user? If so, have you looked in the logs for evidence that the message was delivered? (You say it "appears as sent", but you dont' mention anything about "received"). Just a guess, but it could be something like a bad filter configured or something like that.

Yes, the user "B" is an internal Zimbra user. I forgot to write that this users are using Outlook as mail client. We checked for filters on the outlook and none are set. We alse checked on the ZCS webclient, sending from user "B" 's outlook to the webclient of user and the mail did not get to the webclient.

As you posted, we did see the status of the mail only "sent" but not received. I'm not sure why this is happening.

So, the issue is definitely just between these two particular users with this particular type of document? The user can receive Word documents from other users? You're not hitting a size limit with one specific document are you?

The first thing I checked was the quota of the users. They are ok. And we are using POP3. The problem also happens with other users sending and also with mails that don't include attachments. And this happens to some users, not only one. And it happens only with internal zimbra users.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Global Setting in the Zimbra Admin page where you can block attachments based on type.

But you said you've also tested Zimbra web-client to Zimbra web-client right? I think this is important in order to prove that Outlook is not the culprit.

What logs are you looking at when you say you see successful sends but not receives?

Yes we did test the ZCS Webclient to Webclient to see if it was an Outlook problem, and the result was the same as if we were sending through outlook.

I'm checking the zimbra.log using the following statement

tail -f /var/log/zimbra.log | grep user@domain.com

Hey, thanks in advance for your help mate.

E.

Might want to also look at /var/log/maillog and /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log

No problem. Glad to help. Wish I had an answer for you, instead of more questions, but hopefully you'll come across something.

Ok, let me get a hold on the files to check them out and I'll send you more information.

Again thanks, and don't worry in this business you need to have the questions to find the right answers.

Regards!!
