Working with Shared Breifcase

I have a briefcase shared with some files in it with the Manager ROle..
When i try to edit the file and save does the file have to be saved on the local PC.? Is there any way to have it centrally stored so that the file gets updated automatically rather than having to upload it again.

Not at the moment, but we have plans to address this.
