Sort 'From' column

Bug 31080 – 5.0.9 upgrade broke sorting on From column in Inbox

Is there a solution for this in the meantime before the next update?

5.0.10 FOSS is already out; 5.0.10 NE is coming shortly. Issue is fixed there.

I upgraded our installation from 5.0.9 to 5.0.10 and sorting by the "From" column is working for us.

Yea, it sorts by name alpha, so you'd still have to scroll by page to see a name in the middle.

It should work so that the email that's clicked or highlighted, and sort is clicked, it's sorted alpha but with the highlighted name at the beginning. That way all the emails by that person's name are up front without the need to scroll through any pages. This is how it works in Outlook.

Personally, I'd just use the search feature... But clients prefer the sort feature.

The fact that the sorting places you at the top of the list makes it worthless, especially when you have thousands of emails in a folder. It is impractical to sort by 'From' then have to page through until you get to where you were to see the results you want. Using the search bar is certainly effective, however simply 'From' while your email is highlighted may be faster and simpler from the user perspective IF your email is kept onscreen and you aren't moved to the beginning of the list as you are currently.
