Default Linux Firefox Clients Don't Work with Spell Check

Hey group, I'm running into a problem on my Linux clients. My Linux clients are running Firefox 1.5.1 and most of the AJAX stuff is fine. However, the spell check does NOT work. What I mean by that is the system is to "offer" spelling suggestions when you click on a misspelled word. Using Windbloz and Firefox 1.5.1 the spell check functions correctly but on my RedHat (EL4) and CentOS (4.2) systems using Firefox 1.5.1 the spell check does highlight the misspelled words but nothing happens when you click on them.

Any suggestions? I am a horrrribbblle speallear so it would really be nice to get this function to work on my Linux clients.

Thanks,
BA

Is there anything in the JavaScript console when you click on the spell button or when you try to click on the highlighted word?

Nothing in the JavaScript Console. At least not pertaining to my server... Lots of things popped into it once I clicked to reply to this post on the Zimbra forums. But nothing with regards to my server.

I noticed that the "swirling" cirlce in Firefox (upper right area) is still going and that (near the bottom) it says "transfering data" from my web server. It did that for a LONG time, but finally stopped.

Still no "pop-out" with spelling suggestions though. I just tested G-Mail on my Linux client and the spelling feature worked fine there so this has to be something with my system (server).

Thanks,
BA

I think you get the picture. Many of these messages keep coming in when I first visit the site. However, nothing here when I use the spell checker.

Thanks,

Those can be ignored. They are just CSS warnings. Can you file a bug in bugzilla with the specific versions and OS then we can try to replicate it here.

thanks

Bug reported (Bug Number 6558).

I've verified that in a Windows OS the spell check options (choices for a corrected spelling) do "fly out" and work as expected. In a Linux OS (RPM based or Debian based) AND in Mac OSX the spell check options are not shown. This was all verfied using Firefox 1.5 on all Linux machines, the Mac's, and the Windows machines.

Hope to get this fixed soon as I REALLY need a spell checker

I know this is crappy bug reporting but I could have sworn that in M2 or M3 the spell checker was working properly for my Linux clients. No that I've upgraded to the GA release the spell checker is not working properly. But I can't for sure confirm that and I have long since upgraded to the current GA release so I can't go reverify that. Sorry.

We are looking at it. I agree it used to work. We've reproduced it here and will fix it ASAP.

Thumbs up

I suspect a recent regression of Firefox/Linux; it really used to work, FF/Linux is my main development platform

Now fixed.

What do I need to do to my system to make it work again?

Is there a "patch" that I can load to my system?

Thanks,
BA
