how to decrease zimbra cpu/hd/memory usage?

i'm using zimbra as a personal deployment for friends/family (less than 10 people).

i'm running it on ubuntu hardy / amd 64 3000 / 1GB ram

i'm quite happy with the install, and i would just like to tweak things a bit to better fit my needs. i've noticed quite a bit of memory, hard drive usage since installing zimbra, and i'm certain i can bring it down.

there appear to be many threads running for getty, amivsd, zmlogger that are probably uncessary for my use case.

my question is, how can i decrease the amount of threads running for these various processes, and what are other ways can i tweak down zimbra to better suit my needs?

and yes, i'll consider throwing in another 1GB of RAM...

while Zimbra will run on 1gb, they really recommend 4gb, with 8gb or more being optimal. Here's a quick top reading of my system using a stripped down Ubuntu 6.06 with nearly no one connected right now.

The RAM usage is high, but it's not currently using swap at all and it is using far more than 1gb. With RAM prices fairly low, I'd recommend even a personal system to have 4gb.

i agree with you, and i plan on putting in another 1GB (my machine only supports 2GB)

however, even with that, i feel zimbra is consuming one too many threads for my needs, and i should be able to configure some confs here and there to tone things down a bit.

the question is, what actions can i take that will give me the biggest gains but still able to run a well performing zimbra for my ten users. (i'm leaning towards less avismd and jetty threads)
