Default Security - How secure is Zimbra?

I see that my Zimbra email is on a secure webpage. It appears to be 128 bit encryption. Is that now "state of the art?" What happens with attachments? Are they susceptible to hacking? Is anyone using this secure collaboration suite for emailing confidential medical information?

Zimbra has SSL for all it's interfaces. We recommend that all external access is via SSL. There are at least a couple of clients using Zimbra in and around medical facilities. One in particular uses it for x rays and the like.

Kevin, thanks. I am also near San Mateo. How do I find help to see if we can access it through SSL?

Not sure what you mean? If you configure zimbra for SSL (https) that's what you'll get.

What i mean is... your post said make sure all external access is SSL. So if I access the mailbox from any computer anywhere, but i always get to it via the address that starts with "https:" and I see the little lock in the lower right hand corner, does that mean it is through SSL and encrypted? Thanks.

The answer to that is almost certainly yes, but if you're not sure, you should read the documentation on your browser (and your IMAP client, or POP client, or whatever).

Thanks. I am just a user. I am a doctor and not a computer person.
