Default Image in message received from Mac Mail not viewable

Here is a strange problem ... someone sent me an image as an attachment using Mac OS X Mail (Version 3.3 Leopard). The image is not viewable in the Advanced Version MUI, nor does it even show up as an attachment. However, when i switch to Standard Version the image becomes viewable. At first i thought perhaps all images were problematic but when i sent one as an attachment through thunderbird it worked fine in both Advanced and Standard Mode.

Has anyone else come across issues like this when receiving messages composed in Mac Mail?

can reproduce this 100%. server ist 5.0.8 Network Edition running on Mac OS X Server 10.4. Mac Mail Client V 3.4.

attached pictures coming from mac mail do not appear in advanced mode (Firefox 3.01 and Safari 3.1.2 on Mac OS 10.5.4. tried with .jpg and .png

actually the Size column in the inbox reports the correct size incl. the attachment. also when looking at the source of the mail with "Show Original" its there ->

-------------------------------------------
--Apple-Mail-9-72187185
Content-Disposition: inline;
filename="Picture 1.png"
Content-Type: image/png;
x-mac-hide-extension=yes;
x-unix-mode=0644;
name="Picture 1.png"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAN4AAADZCAIAAADAABlYAAAODW lDQ1BJQ0MgUHJvZmlsZQAAeJyN
V2k41O3b <here would follow the rest of the data>
-------------------------------------------

everything looks ok in standard mode. and when looking at those same messages in this inbox from mac mail with IMAP connection everything is fine as well.

when doing a forward of such a message the attachment data is lost, nothing in the source anymore and the Size reports only the actual text size of the body of the mail.

very bad.....

did some more tests and now i see ->

if the body of the message contains any text, the picture is displayed correctly in advanced mode as an inline picture, but not as an attachment.

if the body of the message does NOT contain any text just the picture, the picture is missing as described before in advanced mode.

but still, if such a message that shows the inline picture (no attachment info) is forwarded the picture info if lost and only the text body is sent. no picture anywhere..

Please file a bug in bugzilla and attach a sample message that exhibits this behavior!

You need to do a "Show Original" on one such message, save it as a text file, and attach that message to the bug. If we can't repro, we can't fix, and the easiest way to repro is if you give us a sample message.

Hi! I'm the engineer who will be fixing this bug. I'm asking you to make my life easier by attaching a sample message that reproduces this issue. If it's not too much trouble, could you indulge me and do so?

thanks for your help. actually a textfile with samples has already been attached to the bugzilla case as requested in an earlier post.

-> Bug 30260 – Inline attachments sent from Apple Mail do not display using ZCS Ajax client

is this ok or do you need more details in some other form/way?

sorry about the confusion and thanks again.

I am having the similar problems using zimbra ne 6.0.5. I have some users who do not receive inline images sent from apple mail 4. They only receive a text tag similar to this > <tech support.jpg>. I can see the image just fine in my zimbra web client, but if I try to forward the message, the image is missing.

I am using the advanced web client just like the user that didn't see the image at all. Is there still an open problem with zimbra 6.0? This is a huge problem for us because half of our staff use apple mail client. And more of them want to move to apple mail so they can see the images.
