problem with shared email folders

We have a shared email folder for each project in the office. Users move emails, both sent and received, into the shared folder from their own mailboxes. When these shared folders are viewed in the web interface, we need to have both a Sender (From) and a Recipient (To) column but in fact have only the Sender column. Is there a way to modify the view for this? I don't see Recipient (To) offered as a choice in the list to select when I right-click the bar. We can use search features to get the information but that is clumsy compared to being able to simply click the column heading to sort according to sender or recipient as needed.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask such questions but I've been unable to find an answer with search.

Welcome to the forums. There is no way to have both To/From columns displayed. All folders except the Sent folder automatically show the From, and Sent shows To.

I have been working on weaning my users off of the sort-by-column that they were used to in Thunderbird. Since you are using a web client, the search feature is far more efficient, as you don't have to page through potentially many pages of emails to get to the name you're looking for. Even with 100 emails per page, many of my users have tens if not hundreds (I hope not anyway) of pages in some of their folders, and paging through would take far longer than a simple search.

I realize search is more efficient in some cases but not all. Since you say you are trying to 'wean' us from using it, I suppose I can assume there is no way to get both To and From implemented as choices in shared email folders? I have to tell you that I don't consider it progress to be more limited in my choices. I would like my users to be allowed to decide what is more useful to them in each particular case.

In my case, as long as I am unable to make the Zimbra web interface more palatable to my users, I am stuck with users who will continue to simply use Thunderbird instead. And that makes everything else more difficult for me. Therefore, I am not pleased to be told that the Zimbra staff is going to make decisions based on their view of what I need to be 'weaned' from.

A further HUGE problem is that there is no way to show the date the email was sent which is the important date for emails sent out from the office. Instead the shared folder only allows a 'received' date which is the given as the date the email was moved to the shared folder- a useless date.

The Zimbra team may consider these things unimportant because to them we should all be using 'search' constantly, but these are issues that make the shared folder system very unpopular in our office.

I don't work for Zimbra, I'm just here to help people. I'm trying to wean my users from it, since they use the web client. The fact that you're using a web client introduces certain limitations, that's an inescapable fact.

However, if you want to see a feature (like having the option for both columns) included, you might want to search Bugzilla to see if anyone else has suggested that, or file your own enhancement request.

Very sorry - I thought the 'moderator' meant that you worked for Zimbra. Of course, weaning your users is your business- wish I was in a position to do some of that myself but don't. I should have questioned you before I blew up over what I thought was a 'zimbra' opinion.
Thanks for the suggestion on the Bugzilla thing. I tried earlier to figure out how to put in a request there but will look at it again tomorrow.

This seems like a serious bug. Can you please file a bug in bugzilla for this?
