[SOLVED] smtp authentication and Pix Firewall

I have been beating my head for the last two nights trying to get SMTP authentication running from my house to my server at another location.

I ended up fixing it be removing "fixup esmtp" from the Cisco Pix (ASA) configuration.

My Zimbra server sits on a DMZ interface off the Pix. It is not directly connected to the Internet

As soon as I did that, I could send using SMTP authentication on both Outlook Express and SeaMoney's email client...

That was my last little thing I needed to have everything running...

I had a client that could not send email through.
They were getting the following error
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator.

<srvo1 #5.5.0 smtp;504 <srvo1>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname>

When I did a test of our email server from the outside it looked like

220 ******************

Actually I did not see it they said it was 220 with a bunch of asterisks.

Problem was the Pix firewall. I love that thing and I hate it at the same time.

I logged into the CLI and ran the following commands.

no fixup protocol smtp 25
write mem

After this all is well. Just wanted to post so others did not have to suffer like us.
