Default Additional Feature Request - Web Client Mail Sort Order Options

At the moment, the web client appears to allow you to sort by subject or date. Was hoping that this feature might be extended to allow to sort by 'From' and 'Size' columns, particularly 'from'.

This seems an odd thing not to have been included, to be able to group the mails you've received by who they're from ? Was this avoided done for a reason ?

Any feedback appreciated.

Generally great great product. Thanks to everyone who has put so much time and effort into it.

Nick

Welcome to the forums,

You should be able to sort by sender/recipient inside a convo, just not in the main folder.
Alternatively you could switch to message view and sort by those, but note: Bug 6830 - sorting Sent folder by To column sorts wrong.

Quote:
Sorting on "To" is very resource expensive. More expensive than sorting on size. The general gist is that anything we want to sort on has to (a) have its own column in the DB and (b) have its own sortable field in Lucene. "To" has neither (at least I'm pretty sure the Lucene field is not sortable), so we'd have to reanalyze the entire mailbox and rewrite every row of the DB to contain the "To" data.
Though we might disable To: until 6830 is fixed, see: Bug 12734 - Message view + in:sent To column header allows sort

Also see: Bug 7972 - Mail sort using from column not enabled

So yes, it's a bit before Bug 1108 - Sorting should be available on ALL columns will be done. (The way we work it's far better for individual one's to be opened like the above or Bug 21631 - Add ability to sort by priority & Bug 21632 - Add ability to search by priority.)

Default Many thanks for the prompt comment/reply ...

Will look forward to introduction of that "sort on every column" feature. I understand the resource constraints to a degree but can't help feeling it's an important one.

A couple of other features that strike me about the web client in a similar way ... no abiiity to apply newly created filters retrospectively to the inbox ... i.e. create a filter/rule to move all the messages building up from a bulliten board, for example, to a new folder.

Also, an ability to go direct to a message number rather than having to use the forward/back arrows to hunt through potentially many pages of max 100 messages per page.

Just a couple of thoughts anyway.

Thanks again for the welcome and quick response, and thanks to everyone involved in a great and very successful project !

Regards,

Nick

Default Thanks again ...

... for the prompt feedback.

I'm obviously going to have to spend more time searching through the bug reports. Can I take it from this that Zimbra is officially using the bug reporting system for feature enhancement requests as well ?

I shall keep a watch on those 'bug' reports, as they seem important and (from a user interface perspective) fairly basic features to include.

Thanks to you and to all the Zimbra team for your/their hard work.

Nick

Yes, bugzilla is the correct place for enhancement requests (as well as bug reports), that way our developers get to see them.

You should add yourself to any bug reports that you wish to watch and get notified on their progress.

Hi,
just let me also first express my enthousiasm about the product.
Concerning the sorting feature: I also would need it a lot. But my personal experience is, that a general "sort on every column" is not really necessary. Sort on size is not really necessary. Perhaps folks can concentrate on sorting on "From" column feature.

Best regards
