Calendar overview for vacation planning?

Hi,
I would like to see the general availability (in office/out of office) of a group of people for a large period (say 1 month), in order to plan vacations etc.
The schedule view just shows me a day at a time; the month view of calendars is also not optimal for this.
Is there a nice way to do this?

You can always look at the free/busy calendar, you can view by month/week/etc.

Yes, but I'd need something where I can see many users at the same time. Basically I would like to see something similar to the schedule view but for many days.

Additionally... something I've done here is create a 'Timeoff Calendar' as a location. You can have people specify the "location" as "timeoff" (what i named the location), and you will have everyone's out-of-office in one location.

Mind you, this would require people to remember to put in the location. Mine here is handled by a web form for submitting time off requests.

I tried this "wokaround", but it doesn't show the result I need.
I need to see, who is when on vacation, e.g. by different colors or by showing the username in the monthview.

I was thinking about sharing everyones calender to one special account that can display only the vacation entries in the calendars month view - but this would need "global" tags to filter these entries. And, as far as I know, sharing tags doesn't work till now. Does it?

We need the same vacation planning here.
Some of our employees had used Lotus Organizer a long time to manage such things. But also the planning view from the Scalix web client make this possible.

We want to migrate to an open source groupware server with a good web based client like Zimbra or Scalix.
I personally prefer Zimbra, it's very easy to set up, has a great web client and a very big community. But i don't know how we should do our vacation planing with it.
