Default Unexpected/wrong behaviour on IMAP searches

Hello,

having played a little bit with the IMAP Interface of zimbra I stumpled upon some strange results.

A search for 'gmx.de' in the From field, yields to an empty result, while a search on '@gmx.de' yields to results.

The IMAP dialog was:
A00060 SEARCH FROM @gmx.de..
* SEARCH 1965 2603 4010 6940 7355 9283 9542 9621 10137 10232 10845 10846 11119 11374 11496 11550 11720 11826 12169 12559 12707 12718 12866 12995 13076 13182 13269 13310 13462 14709 14731 14733 14955 14965 15362 15585 16510 16871 17324 18394
A00060 OK SEARCH completed..

A00061 SEARCH FROM gmx.de..
* SEARCH
A00061 OK SEARCH completed..

This is not what I expected, as RFC 3501 says 'In all search keys that use strings, a message matches the key if the string is a substring of the field. The matching is case-insensitive.'

Is this intended behaviour or a bug? I would consider it a bug, especially as I would like to search for 'gmx' an get the Mails from gmx.de, gmx.net, ...

Welcome to the forums,
Are you running a version prior to 5.0.5?

It's a known issue, though I don't believe that there's a bug tracking it right now. (You can open one if you'd like.)

For now, please use the SEARCH FROM @gmx.de syntax. If you need to query 3 domains, SEARCH OR FROM @gmx.de OR FROM @gmx.net FROM @gmx.com should work.

Default Bug is filed

See Bug 28371 - IMAP search not implemented as described in RFC 3501
