can't create IMAP account

I am able to setup (and run) thunderbird just fine. But when I use the same IMAP settings in the latest Zimbra desktop (or web interface) I get the following error:
* BYE JavaMail Exception: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake

Any ideas?
