using ilters on existing mails

when receiving emails the filtering works very fine. But when I create a new filter it would be fine, to test the filter against existing mails. Is there a way to do so?

Welcome to the forums.

There's no way to do that currently, vote on the RFE: Bug 1112 - a user should be able to run filter rules over an existing set of mail items.
