Exclamation Need Urgent HELP!!!

I run Zimbra 4.5 on my production server. For the past week, I have been having HUGE mail queues on my server.
I have about 5700 users and it's a real hassle when they don't get their mails on time.
this is what I get when i run mailq command
[zimbra@mx ~]$ mailq
.
.
.
.
-- 209783 Kbytes in 3381 Requests.

How do I optimize the mail queue, especially during peak period.

What are the specs of the server ? Have you added anything else into SpamAssassing eg. additional RBLs ? What is the load on your server ? How much free memory does it have ?

I don't use spam assasin. I have a dedicated server running a third party software for filtering spam.

my server specs:
RAM: 8310168 kB
Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5150 @ 2.66GHz
Hard drive: 411GB

This should be enough for any installation, I think.
By the way, I have all my Zimbra services running on this server:
ldap Running
mailbox Running
mta Running
snmp Running
spell Running
stats Running

I'm getting on the hot seat really soon

I think SA had an issue of timing out on that version of Zimbra causing a backup in the queue.

Check your logs for any errors of this nature.

Is SA disabled on that server then ? As Bill has said check your logs, if SA is firing for whatever reason there may be a RBL being used that is no longer in existence.
