Default Individual Email Folder Retention

Hello,

Is there a way to set individual email folder retention on user created folders? I would like users to be able to set specific retention periods on each folder themselves.

Thanks, Kathy

Welcome to the forums,

Admins can set these attributes via CLI on COS or individual user:
zimbraMailMessageLifetime (default is 0 disabled - careful with this one as it affects mail in any folder)
zimbraMailSpamLifetime (default is 30d)
zimbraMailTrashLifetime (default is 30d)

These as well, though currently not exposed in the user's UI:
zimbraPrefInboxReadLifetime
zimbraPrefInboxUnreadLifetime
zimbraPrefSentLifetime
zimbraPrefJunkLifetime
zimbraPrefTrashLifetime

The one's currently exposed in the admin console gui > cos/user > advanced tab:
zimbraMailMessageLifetime
zimbraMailSpamLifetime
zimbraMailTrashLifetime

There's also: Bug 20753 - Allow user to set chat folder lifetime

Vote for / support ticket tag / cc watch: Bug 6229 - Individual Folder Max Messages and Max Lifetime

Let us know if you need help on how to set those.
Zmprov - Zimbra :: Wiki

For instance on the COS named 'default':
su - zimbra
zmprov mc default zimbraPrefSentLifetime 30d

Or on an account:
su - zimbra
zmprov ma user@domain.com zimbraPrefSentLifetime 30d

Account level will use the COS value unless explicitly set otherwise, then account level overrides COS.

This is all dependent on the new zimbraMailPurgeSleepInterval in v5 (the actual 'cleanup') which has a default of 1min to process roughly 1440 accounts/day.
See this thread for more info: [SOLVED] junk mail cleanup

Thank you mmorse for the welcome and for the info. Lots of good stuff there but do you know if there is a way for each individual user to set the retention on their email folders?

Our issue is that depending on the data contained in the email it can have a different retention period. Being that each user creates and names their own folders we can't use the global retention set at the server. We would like the users from within their own mailbox to set the retention for whatever folders they would like. Is this possible?

Thanks again!
Kathy

Default Individual Email Folder Retention

Hi rrmorse,

Thanks once again for being so prompt.

I keep trying to commit a comment to the bug link you supplied but it keeps saying I have an invalid user name or password. I have the correct user name and password and even logged into the Zimbra site before clicking on the link to comment on the bug. Any suggestions?

By the way, a co-worker had the same problem posting to a different bug.

Thanks, Kathy
