Using external program to notify an event start

Hi,

With ZCS, whenever an appointment is about to start an alert message pops up.

Is there a way to use an external program for notification ?

For example,Kontact, KDE collaboration client, would allow that as you can edit a command line which would be run when an appointment should have started or ended.
