Disable GAL sync in Outlook Connector?

We have a rather large GAL, and we're testing the Outlook connector at the moment. Each time we start Outlook or make changes to the Zimbra mail profile, the GAL re-syncs and downloads ~33MB of GAL goodness (at a slow rate...at least 10 minutes). Is there a way to configure the connector not to sync the GAL, only sync it upon request, or rebuild the msi to disable this feature?
