Default Problems Searching "Re" in Subject Line

So, I've been extremely boggled lately doing searches. I work for a school that's implementing Zimbra and I've read through all the documentation regarding searches. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or maybe I'm not. In our tech setting we have tickets from our troubleshooting database sent to us via email, when we reply, the same subject line is used with the obvious Re tag in it. But when I search for the following, I don't get appropriate results with Re in them.

subject:"Re" AND subject:"has been assigned to the"
subject:"Re*" AND subject:"has been assigned to the"

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forums,
Are you starting in the proper folder those email's are contained withing when you're searching? (try adding is:anywhere on that string)

Thanks for the tip, but alas 5.0.4 and 5.0.2 doesn't seem to like "Re", "Re:", or "Re*" in the basic search line as I get no results in combination with the is:anywhere

Messages I'm looking for have this as the subject line:
Re: Ticket ... has been assigned to the

If I search: subject:"Re" AND is:anywhere

I get messages that have Re in brackets that are separate from the one at the beginning of the subject line, for example:

Re: [*.edu: Re: [*.edu: Ticket *:Recover Request]]
(* were input by me to protect the idenity of client's email addresses)

Any ideas? It would appear Zimbra isn't including Re in it's searches if it's a reply (that sits at the begining of the subject line).

UPDATE: It has been suggested (by one of our email administrators) that perhaps it's a feature put in by Zimbra during indexing to prevent it from becoming a stop word during searches. Which would explain my difficulties. But can this be substantiated?

Zimbra normalizes the subject (stripping "Re:", "Fwd:", "Fw:", "(fwd)", etc.) when slotting emails into conversations. It then indexes the normalized subject.

So yes, the behavior you're seeing is intentional.
