Thunderbird ldap gal config help

Hi all:

Can anybody help me to configure my thunderbird email clients to fetch the users/emails from the company's directory ?

I've created an ldap server on thunderbird, but i don't know how to fill the
- DN base
- DN login
- (advanced) search filter

I'm trying to integrate zimbra with my exististing company mail clients (outlook & thunderbird) and it would be nice to feed the contacts of both with the zimbra GAL.

For Thunderbird to access Zimbra as a GAL I use:

General Tab:
- Hostname [Your host]
- Base DN [] (empty)
- Port [389]
- Bind DN [] (empty)

Uncheck Secure (SSL)


Advanced Tab:
- 500 results
- Scope [Subtree]
- Search Filter [(mail=*)]

I have followed the instructions here and I have managed to successfully connect to the GAL.

Is it possible to configure Thunderbird to run a wildcard search by default? If not is there a wildcard string that can be used to return all addresses in the GAL?

I am also interested in creating two more LDAP address books on this server, is this possible?

There is an option in Thunderbird for offline use to download all the contacts, but I've not seen it work. Unless you plan to provision more user for these 2nd address book it's not something we support.

Any updates or work around on this? Seeing a list of addresses would be nice. Sometimes a user will want to see a list rather than rely on memory if you need to find multiple addresses.

I followed Kevins steps from 9/26 and when I open a new message it will find an address based on text I enter, but my address book doesn't showing anything at all.
If I click the Download Now option in the Offline tab a box (error msg?) flashes on the screen but it's gone before I can see any content.

I am using Thunderbird 1.5 connecting to ZCS 3.0.1

If it's just the list you need you can search on "." just like in our GAL on the web this will match all addresses and give you the list.

Hello, I've used the instructions above to setup an LDAP directory in my Thunderbird client, however it doesn't seem to work. My settings are:

General:
Name: Zimbra
Hostname: my.zimbra.server
Base DN: <blank>
Port Number: 389
Bind DN: <blank>
Use SSL UNchecked

Advanced
Don't returen more than 500 results.
Scope: Subtree
Search filter: (mail=*)

as far as i can tell, nothing happens. auto complete shows up nothing, and I searching the LDAP directory for "Any Name" "contains" for any string produces zero results.

It acts as if it never even try to connect.
I even tried to run a packet capture, and nothing shows up in there.

Please helps, I can't find anything else to try, and this clearly isn't.

Why do you have to enter "." though? Should browsing to your Zimbra address book in Thunderbird simply automatically display it? This seems very counter-intuitive to me...

Browsing doesn't seem to work in T-bird. It works fine when auto-complete from the TO: line activates.
