Default Download Files from Briefcase

*- Unless I've missed something obvious -*

There doesn't appear to be any way to download a file out of the Briefcase to my local machine. I can send someone a link to it, but that's all.

I've managed to get my files by mounting the Briefcase as a webdav drive but not ideal.

if you right click on the document name you can just do "save file". if you right click on top of the document itself that is when you only have the Open/Send Link option.

This seems to depend on the 'view'

I was in 'Detail View' and couldn't understand what you meant, but in the other two views there are html links and yes, you can right click and do save as.

Would still be nice to have an option in the right click menu

Right-clicking on a file pops up a menu with Open, Send, etc.

"Open" IS downloading the file. Upon selecting open, you will be asked if you want to save or open the file by your browser. If you are not asked this, then you most likely have told your browser some time in the past to "remember" the action of opening for all files of that type.

Look in the browser's prefs to return to the default of asking you.

Yes, but the application should have the option to download instead of depending on the browser to present the choices. Hence the RFE raised.

Well, you both are right.

Opening is downloading in the sense that we rely on the browser to interpret whether the file will be viewed in the browser, or downloaded...ie zip vs html file. Zip gets downloaded, html gets viewed. It is a download...just not the way we want it.

However, that's not the way it SHOULD be. For example, we can, in the mail application, download an html file based on the way the server sends the file to the client...forcing a download rather than a view (download in the sense that it places a file, and doesn't automatically view it). Because we can only open in the Briefcase, and not force a download (viewing only... relying on the browser), this is a bug.

Moved from enh, to bug.
