Default A script in this page is causing mozilla to run slowly

This happened when I was searching mails for the first time after copying all mails from my previous server.

Screen shot is available here

There's a general problem with mozilla/firefox, which causes the browser to eat CPU when it's waiting for a response from a soap call. We're working on modifying our server to avoid this.

(THis bug is known to the folks on the mozilla team, too - search bugzilla.mozilla.org for "cpu usage")

We have a fix for this on the client, and are currently in the process of implementing it.

Are you using the latest and greatest ZCS and Firefox builds?

I think ZCS has implemented a workaround, because I no longer get the problem. If not, I'd download the 1.8 build of FF or use IE.

Exclamation Still an issue?

I am testing Zimbra 4.5 OSS with Windows XP/Firefox 2.0.0.1 and am seeing this phenomenon.

When going to the login page, my CPU will spike to 100% for quite some time (15 minutes-ish, never exactly timed it) but when I come back to my computer, it'll be there, ready to go. IE6 from the same client computer doesn't have any issues. The same thing happens when I log in.

Once I'm logged in, however -- things seem to work all right until I click the log out button.

Note however, that on a different machine, running openSUSE/Firefox 1.5.? it doesn't freeze up on me.

A few other things to note:
One, I haven't tested this on more than one Windows/Firefox 2.0.0.1 machine -- so it could be simply an issue with the particular client computer that I'm using.
Two, the server is on a fairly slow uplink (1.5Mbps) which just may help to exaggerate the problem.

So, I only throw this out here in case anyone is having similar issues. I will do some testing to see if it happens on all client machines or just this one.

Update: I have now tested it with Windows SBS/Firefox 2.0.0.1 and it pegs out one of the two CPUs, but only for a few seconds (hardly noticeable) before logging in. So, I imagine that this 15-20 minute issue could just be on my particular client machine.

Default Plugins?

If you disable your Firefox plugins, does it solve the problem?

Thumbs down Disabling Firefox plugins

I loaded up Firefox in Safe Mode, but it still seemed to have the same issue. I timed it this time around however, and it took 2 minutes (almost exactly) to show me the login page.

I wonder if there is a 2-minute timeout somewhere, or two 1-minute timeouts that I'm hitting up against somehow.

Just in case it had something to do with my server alone, I also tried demo.zimbra.com and it took two minutes and the screen changed to the background color, but then it attempted to log me in (automatically). I had to leave after timing it for 20 minutes, but when I came back 3 hours later, it was logged in and working. (Note that the demo.zimbra.com test was not in Firefox's safe mode.)

Anyway, I still think it may just be this computer -- but I have yet to really run any tests elsewhere.
