Default [SOLVED] Configure pidgin/gaim with Zimbra5?

Hi,
we've built a test box for zimbra 5 to try things out before migrating from 4.5, and are especially keen to get messaging working so that we can stop staff using 3rd party servers.

so, we have two email addresses set up, test1@example.com and test2@example.com

my configuration is as follows:
Protocol: XMPP
Screen name: test1
Domain: example.com
Resource: Gaim
Password: *****
Local alias: blahblah
--
Force old (port 5223) SSL: off
Allow plaintext auth over unencrypted streams: ON
Connect port: 5222
Connect Server: zimbra5test.example.com
Proxy type: No Proxy

we cannot get pidgin (aka gaim) to login to the jabber server, I have tried many different things - I can "tcpdump" and see the attempts to connect on port 5222 if I do not enable ssl; I can also make pidgin attempt to connect to 5223 too, but it always says simply "Not Authorised".

I know my pidgin installation is working as I'm logged in to googletalk's xmpp service.

BTW, when logged in to webmail, we can send messages between accounts but the messages do not arrive!

thanks
Paul

if I use the webmail interface and send a message from user test1, I get this

Lightbulb Solved!

d'oh, turns out my colleague was playing with the ldap settings, so although I'd changed my password in the webmail interface, it wasn't actually changing it, and thus the 'cant login' message was correct.

therefore my configuration posted above was correct

sorry!

IM works fine for me in the webmail client, however, I can't get any external client eg PSI, Pidgin etc to work.

I get a read error in Pidgin or an error in XML stream if I use PSi.

I am following the connection guidelines to the letter as per the guide at https://zimbra.dpm-net.com/home/cgol...gin_for_Zimbra

I'm using ZCS 5.0.1NE and also 5.0.5NE on the test box.

I've tried various other things like the XMPPEnable commands but again, no luck.

Anyone any idea why this isn't working for me? Zimbra support reckon this should work fine but haven't yet been able to help.

Regards,

Ali
