    /bump.

I've shown zimbra off to a couple companies with exchange servers. They're frothing at the mouth to get it, but not until the full collaboration stuff is in (shared calendars/contacts). Any release date in mind yet? Even vaguely, like Q1 2006?

Shared cal is in it's super sweet. Just got read-only import of remote ICS files similar to Apple's iCal. We've not decided on the next release date but it shouldn't be too long off.

As for shared contacts you can do this with an external GAL so depending on the use case you may or may not need to wait until we get that in.

Default External GAL to Share contacts?

    Hi Kevin, Thanks for replying.

Are you suggesting that a users contacts can be shared by using some external GAL? Not sure how that would be approached can you offer more on your suggestion?

I think we are all so used to other let downs and disappointments with other groupware/collab software you aren't starting from ground zero but the sum of all of our impatience... Sorry!

We have the ability to configure a GAL (global address list) so you could set up a small LDAP instance with all the contact you want to share then user's would see them as their GAL. Another solution would be to just import a list of contacts into each user's mailbox but of course it's harder to update if you take this approach. Eventually we'll get shared contacts and shared folders. In fact the server support for this is basically in now that we have shared calendar. So it's not that far off it's just we can't do everything at once.

Default More questions from the petulant and impatient users!

Thanks Kevin, so I think I am right that either proposed options would allow a managed shared contacts list outside the local community but not for a user (or mailbox) to share their contacts ad-hoc? This we will impatiently wait for

In the mean time, back to the other part of the question, is there a road map for the road map or a date for the next release yet? I heard something of November on one message - its so much easier to wait when you know when the waiting may end or even when the waiting for notice of the end of the waiting may end!

We are installing a med-size live internet test server tomorrow for a subset of our existing Exchange communities to play with - will let you know what progress this makes with such a community...

Nice try, but you're not going to get much better than "soon" :-) They've been fairly clear in that there is no set release date. Although they've mentioned on a few occasions that they hope to have something in November, I believe it falls under the "it'll be released when it's ready" category :-)

To tie us over, they've offered a lot of the featureset for the upcoming Network and OSS releases in the following thread:

What's in the Open Source Edition vs. Network Standard Edition

    Have a good one,
    -Eric

Yep.. If I had a date I'd report it here. We just don't know. When we get it right we'll cut it loose.

We'd be very interested in any feedback like this. Anyone else running a live test in their community or company?

I just built one to run in a test enviornment. I got it up and running yesterday...

May I suggest you guys add a line to your install instructions stating that it needs and internal DNS name for itself. Once I figured out I needed to add the host and mx records in my internal dns, it worked great.

I would like to be able to create a mirror of this box. Currently, I have a mirror of all my back end linux systems in another location. I am positive I can use the same scripts to accomplish backing up the system, but I am afraid that it will fail because it will not be able to share the same host record with the current server. I will see if I can hack through it.

A few years ago we migrated from Exchange to Qmail. This is a much better solution, and would be a viable replacement for exchange when it is functioning fully. Good job guys.

Thanks for the feedback. What do you have in your /etc/hosts file? If this includes the mahcine host name and real IP it should just work. Of course adding it to DNS will also solve this.
