Default different sender/email identity within the web client possible?

Hello,

how can a mail be sent with different identities, e.g. as info@abc.com
and as john@abc.com (from within the web/browser client)?

Thank you!

John

That depends what version you're using. Have a look in the user preferences for a tab labeled Identities or for more recent versions Accounts, you can make the change there.

Thank's a lot Bill for the feedback! For the moment we are only using the
Zimbra Hosted Demo Account.

Under Preferences, there are the following tabs:

General, Mail, Composing, Signatures, AddressBook, Accounts, Mail Filters, Calender, IM, Shortcuts

Does the actual version of Zimbra Hosted Demo Account not yet offer that feature or am I looking at the wrong place?

Thank's a lot! John

It's the Accounts tab for the option you'd need. In the hosted demo we only have the ability to set the 'Reply To' address, the option to change the email address you send from is an option that needs to be set in the Admin UI which, for obvious reasons, isn't available in the demo.

If you actually want the email to appear to come from another ID then you'd need to set an option in the Admin UI. That would allow you to set the 'From' field that you see in the Accounts tab and additionally an email address. Sorry I can't be more help with that.

John, that option is actually called "mail identities" in the Zimbra management console. Either by user or by Class of Service, you can enable permissions for the mail identities feature, and if enabled it'll allow you or the user to set up alternative identities.

One "gotcha" on identities, though, is that if you want the identity to appear to be coming from a different domain (as opposed to a different user in the same domain per your example) you can come up with some ugliness due to the alternate domain coming from your primary domain's smtp server--which can result in your stuff going to somebody else's spam buckets. . .

But for an alternate user or alias in the same domain identities work great.
