Default Zimbra and SugarCRM

I'm an open source shop and have been looking at SugarCRM's open source version for my marketing needs.

Q: With the campaign emailing features that SugarCRM has, I believe I need an email server to process the campaign. Has anyone put these 2 together?

I know I'm asking a question about SugarCRM, but I'm actually more interested in how Zimbra would (or if it could) integrate with SugarCRM.

Hat Tip to vcolombo: he had a post that noted SugarCRM and that was what brought it to my mind.

I was coming here to ask the exact same question. We recently set Zimbra up on our company's network and like the features and such, but it would be very nice to have SugarCRM integrated into the application to keep track of current customers and new sales leads.

I'd like to put my name forward for the whole SugarCRM/Zimbra combo too. I'd be interested in using SugarCRM rather than SalesForce, and as such would be curious as to how to get the zimlet to work if at all possible.

We are in testing with SugarCRM right now and have yet to get to the emailing from within Sugar.

Here's a generic question for anyone (maybe Kevin H?): if we configure Sugar to use SMTP for outgoing (to be sent by the Zimbra server) and not worry about incoming and stuffing it into Sugar (relying on Zimbra client for incoming and all responding), should we be good to go?

We are primarily only going to use Sugar's outgoing emailing capability to do email campaigns. We will still use Zimbra for our individual email.

Since we aren't yet talking about zimlet integration of SugarCRM, I was hoping someone could provide at least some insight on the SMTP out of Sugar.

I've just tested mailing from SugarCRM using Zimbra as the SMTP server and it is pretty straght forward. As Admin go to Admin->System/Configure Settings and enter your mail server details. Choose an account that you want to use for authentication (I tested using the Zimbra Admin account).

To enable users to e-mail from within SugarCRM you'll have to enter their own mail details too.

Hope this helps?

We are still working at testing our processses (the sort or "how we will use it"), but the email campaigning is up next on the list. Mucho appreciado!

Have you integrated this with Zimbra any yet as far as a Zimlet like with SalesForce?

I have just started looking at it, didn't know if you had any input here.

Thanks,
illc0mm

Yes we have done some initial work... It was prior to the complete Zimlet framework, so to get it to the state of the Salesforce Zimlet, we'll need to make some changes.

If possible I'd like to see something, I could assist with porting to a Zimlet if need be. I have a development environment already setup that I can test on.

You can see what's there in CVS:
