Lightbulb Opera Support Collaboration

I would like to volunteer my services to get Zimbra working in Opera. I saw an old thread about it but didn't want to necro it. I would like to know why opera is blocked from testing the ajaxy hosted demo? Is there some parameter I can tack on to the address to bypass this browser detection? I haven't look at the code at all yet but I would assume that Zimbra is using object detection and not browser sniffing, right? I have the 4.5.3 vmware image setup locally and I'll be debugging with that as well. Any help and guidance would be appreciated. Since this is open-source, are there places where the deobfuscated javascript can be viewed?

The reason it's blocked is because it doesn't work We want to ensure that those who use the demo have the best possible experience.

You can easily bypass it by logging in, then changing the url to Zimbra Collaboration Suite Log In

If you want to help with development, that would be great! I would suggest getting the latest beta and testing it.

Well I'm currently testing 4.5.3 locally because a vmware image is available. I would like to test newer versions but I can't get them installed in newer versions of Ubnutu. Is it possible you could throw in a check for some variable (disabledcompatibilitycheck for instance) in the hosted demo page to make testing easier. Just a thought. I'll be basing my tests off the vmware and the live demo. We'll see how it goes. I also checked out the source to look at the javascript in use.

Can't get zimbra installed on newer versions of ubuntu? or a vmware image installed inside of newer versions of ubuntu?

It's kinda more of a demo for those interested in zimbra to test out the web-clients, connectors, etc as apposed to a devel box...

Not at this stage. The demo isn't made for development, it's made to demo.

We encourage developers who wish to develop, to do it against their own server

I've already tried the wiki link with no success. I understand the hosted demo is not for dev. I'll use the method described by jholder to bypass the check. Thanks.

EDIT: Does the iphone have more marketshare than opera? I noticed it is supported and developed for. I'm curious why Opera was neglected. This is a sincere inquiry.

Make a new thread for that and describe your ubuntu problem -don't want it to get lost in this thread & it's kinda a different topic. There's plenty of people running it, so someone should be able to help

You can certainly use the login workaround against the demo, we we're just saying that turning off the browser checks wasn't going to happen; as it's designed to showcase zimbra's best
It's not really there to block per se, but we need to warn for browsers that have not been fully tested/certified.

(btw admin was jholder as well - just updating the forums and forgot to switch back to his username )

The lite/html/standard client was nearly impossible to use on a pda/mobile device, iZimbra is actually MobileEdition which was long overdue (thank roland's team!)

Guess it should have been named PortableEdition - just don't get MobileEdition confused with MobileSync (the NE version's OTA which allows you to store data on the device itself.

I just though of something that might explain what I mean by the above -

Because there's some other custom stuff (captula), and there also was a need to showcase the three web-client versions; on the hosted demo validate page you get a different message when clicking advanced(AJAX):

Where as the normal warning for selecting advanced(AJAX) on Opera would be:

on 4.5.x it's:

-and you can again choose to continue with the ajax or html client
