Default iPhone compatibility? Push Email?

I have in my hands right now an unlocked iPhone (took me 20mins to follow the instructions from the web) and currently using it with Tmobile. Now to those iPhone/zimbra users, how do you guys setup push email for the iphone? I have roadsync on my p910 so email wasn't a problem, but here, I have to login via http/safari to webmail, and i have to check every so often to see if i have mail. furthermore I have to download the email instead of OTA like the other push email technology.

any suggestions on this? If I can get zimbra to push the emails to the iphone then I might just have found my new phone and put my p910 to rest. btw, this is not my iphone but my sister's phone

thanks

Take this for what you will, but we went to a meeting at Apple, and spoke with several people there. They told us out right that the iPhone does not support IMAP IDLE.

I've seen a lot of bits on the internet about this. Some think it does, and some think it doesn't.

However, I prefer to believe the developers we spoke with.

The iPhone doesn't support PUSH.

Sorry

isn't that something like a necessity nowadays? and for a smartphone of this caliber the iPhone falls short

oh well....so how do you guys access email with the iphone? is there a way to get a notification when an email comes in or something? or even pop3, as long as it's synced with the zimbra server and outlook/evolution

it's still cheaper than the p1i (p1i will cost me 600, the iphone is 300, so I might still go the iphone route)

I couldn't agree more

So, the issue is, if you use pop3/imap, the most you can get it to poll every 15 minutes.

One workaround is to have the Zimbra server send you a text message with your new message. If you don't have unlimited text messaging this can cause your bill to go up.

For me, I just iZimbra with txt notifications

Well, you can get Beta 3 now. Beta 4 is held up with some issues.

Our target date is now November, but we want to be sure everything works before we iShip.

ok i saw the link for the iZimbra...question tho....will that allow me to view my zimbra contac ts and calendars directly in the iPhone? or will i have to login to safari first? like i mean, i can login to iZimbra then view my mail contacts and also my calendar right? but if I go to contacts (from the phone setting in iphone, or view calendar from the main screen) do I see the zimbra contacts as well?
