A Zimbra Toolbar?

Hi all-
I have a question for you. Would anyone be interested in a Zimbra Firefox/IE toolbar? If so, what would you want it to do?

I've put together a working toolbar, and posted some screenshots, but the question is:
With everything having a toolbar, does Zimbra really need a toolbar, and do our users want it?

I'm incorporating Tim's Firefox Extension Check into the toolbar, but we really want your feedback.

You're the boss. You tell me whether you think people will use it, and what you want it to do.

-Options on which web-client (advanced/standard) to use (of course you may already have that-what's in the drop down by the zimbra logo?)

Update: It only calls the lite client currently. -It gets much more complex to make calls on the more advanced 'features' using the AJAX client plus you'd often have wait for a new window to load.

Therefore I suggest a button "Launch Advanced Client"
Or possibly shorten that to "Launch Zimbra" and set the button choice ajax/lite web-client in options.
Thoughts?

Looks nice! Kind of hard to say for what and how much I would actually use it without trying it out, but I would definitely give it a test-drive at the very least.

I just started using the Zimbra Toaster app that is packaged with Zimbra Desktop. While it's nice in it's concept, it isn't consistent and has a shortcoming or two. Perhaps your Firefox extension could fill in the blanks.

First, the mail check that is does continues to show messages as being new, even though I've deleted the message. This pretty much defeats the purpose of new mail notification.

Second, and perhaps more on target with your extension capabilities, is the mailto registration. I absolutely LOVE the fact that it opens up a Zimbra session and starts to compose a message. That integration is exactly what I was hoping to have at some point. My disappointment lies within the fact that if I already have a Zimbra tab/session open it doesn't re-use the existing tab. It starts an entirely new one.

I use two Firefox extensions for Zimbra, as well as a few other "websites"; FaviconizeTab & Permanent Tab. Faviconize reduces a tab heading to just the icon, eliminating any text description. Permanent Tab prevents the tab from ever closing or any links from redirecting away from the associated site. Anything external will open in a new tab.

With that, I always have my Zimbra tab open and logged-in. If my computer is on, Firefox is open and Zimbra along with a few other sites are always open. I would be ecstatic if your plugin would make any mailto clicks use an existing Zimbra session/tab if one is already open.

BTW I am using the AJAX client :D

(I set my toaster for the lite client to get around that little setback.)

Need to address communication w/ other zcs server versions -for simplicity let's stick with 4.5 onward.
ie: check server version at the start & if no tasks etc - when clicked: Tasks are available in ZCS v5! We strongly urge you to upgrade - or pressure those responsible for your system to do it :p

It should:
- remind me of my appointments
- tell me when I receive an email, from who, and maybe scroll the title of the mail
- maybe for zimbra5, tell me when buddies log in/ log out for instant messenging

All this would be nice :) But I think I would even prefer a very small notifier which would hide in the taskbar and whose only role would be notifications... Notifications are really important to me as I don't always have my zimbra tab open, or maybe sometimes it is hidden cause I have too many...

So, yeah, a taskbar notifier for me would do it :)

For the first 2 - he's already planning to integrate Tim's ZimbraCheck Firefox Extension

Any progress on this? Or will it be released with Zimbra 5.0?

btw. I think people will use it and if you put all the used strings in one file I could help with the german translation aswell
