Default BlackBerry mobile device

Hello!

If my understanding is correct to sync BlackBerry mobile device with Zimbra Network Edition you have to install BlackBerry Enterprise Server. An alternative is to use ActiveSync client for BlackBerry (NotifySync, AstraSync) and from february this year there's a BES Express edition which is free and without any limitations (am I right?). Have I forgotten any other options?

Thanks for your help,
Jan

Anyone?
One more question: What is the difference between BES and BES express? Do I need any special licences for connecting BES express + Zimba Network Edition and Blackberry phone.

Have a nice day,
Jan

To sync mail, calendar and address book to you BB device, you do need a BES instance with the ZCB installed.

In my experience you can make do without BES but you'll only have mail through IMAP if your phone/carrier allows it, you'll only see calendar appointents that you get invited to (not the ones you create yourself) and no address book. This is what I saw the one time I tried it with my BB Pearl (aka 8100). ymmv.

I haven't looked at the specs for BES Express. But that can be easily solved with a visit to RIM's website.

Currently, only BES 4.x is supported for connecting to Zimbra NE.

There are several bugs in bugzilla you can track for the status of the BES 5.x and BESx support.
